I subscribe to magazines like Mother Earth News, Back Home, and Vegetarian Times. All three of them have incredible recipes that focus on fresh vegetables & fruit. I also joined the local Rare Fruit Council to learn how to grow fruit trees in my own yard (not just rare fruits, all of them!). All told, I pay less than $100 per year for dues and subscription costs, and in return I get both live and online support that is invaluable! If you can't find a Rare Fruit Council locally, try North American Fruit Explorers, a related group. I also belong to a CSA, and I exchange food as well as information with the other members. Don't be afraid! Get out there and grow!

I've been doing just that for the last 4 years. Nothing like freshly made and organic as much as possible. My husband has started to lose weight naturally because of it, and he is so proud. He's not losing weight fast just to gain it back even faster from these designer diets. Eat well and live longer.

And then there's bread: I make a beautiful loaf of freshly milled organic Whole Wheat bread. The entire thing costs less than $1 to make (including electricity!). The same thing at the health food store is days old and 5 buckaroos.

What a great post. There is nothing better than fresh veggies all summer long. Sigh, I miss the farm!

I eat it and share it - my Grandson loves it !

I love keep it simple. My father often says he never knew a fruit or vegetable to taste better by adding something to it. (including pie!)

Was just making my own whole grain pasta this morning, and I'd forgotten just how easy it is -- even with no special tools. I have some cooked, fresh buckwheat pasta waiting for my lunch today. Yum! I'll share the recipe and technique in an upcoming Nickel Pincher, so stop in Thursday to see if this week's the week!
