Before popping those empty food tins into the recycling bin this Thanksgiving, why not use them to create beautiful holiday gifts for your guests?

Let me show you a superfun and easy DIY project I call “From This to That….”

Here’s what you need:

  • Tin cans
  • Small succulents
  • Potting soil
  • Burlap
  • Dried grass
  • A hot glue gun
  • Scissors
  • Twine, cord, or ribbon
  • Gift tags

Here’s how you do it:

1.     Clean the tin cans and remove their labels.

2.     For each can, cut a section of burlap the same width of the can so that it completely covers the can.

3.     Using a hot glue gun, glue the burlap to the can and trim off any excess burlap.

4.     Fill the can with potting soil to about ½ inch from the top of the rim.

5.     Remove the succulent from its nursery container and insert it into the soil-filled can.

6.     Using a teaspoon, fill in around the base of the succulent with additional soil until the plant is secured in the can.

7.     Dress up the can by adding dried grass around the base of the plant.

8.     Tie twine, cord, or ribbon around the can, then add a gift tag.
